Terms of Service
Last updated June 4, 2026
HTMLOL is a browser-based HTML editor that lives on the left, previews on the right, and tells the occasional joke. These terms are the deal between you and us.
1Who we are
HTMLOL ("HTMLOL," "we," "us," or "our") is operated by West Village Ventures LLC, doing business as HTMLOL, a Pennsylvania limited liability company. "You" means anyone who accesses or uses the service at htmlol.lol (the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to these Terms of Service (the "Terms"). If you don't agree, don't use the Service.
2What the Service does
HTMLOL is an editor for writing and previewing HTML in your browser. You work with files on your own computer; the editor runs locally in your browser. Some features are optional and reach our servers when you choose to use them: publishing a share link, hosting an image for use in email, and exporting or generating a PDF. The Service is offered as-is and may change over time.
3Accounts and sign-in
To use metered features you sign in with your email address. We send a one-time code to that address; there's no password. You're responsible for keeping access to your email account secure and for activity under your account. One account per person. Don't share your sign-in code, and don't impersonate anyone else.
4Free tier, paid plans, and billing
- Free tier. You can work with up to three (3) distinct files for free — counted by filename across saving, exporting, downloading, and publishing a share link. No card required.
- Paid plans. After the free files are used, continuing with metered actions requires a paid monthly subscription (currently Basic and Premium). Plan features and prices are shown in the app at the time you subscribe.
- Payment. Billing is handled by Stripe. By subscribing you authorize recurring monthly charges to your payment method until you cancel. We don't see or store your full card details.
- Renewal and cancellation. Subscriptions renew automatically each month. You can cancel anytime from the billing portal in your account; your access continues through the end of the period you've paid for.
- Price changes. We may change prices on a going-forward basis; we'll give reasonable notice before a change affects you.
- Refunds. Except where required by law, payments are non-refundable. We may issue refunds at our discretion.
5Acceptable use
Use HTMLOL for lawful purposes only. You agree not to:
- create, publish, or host content that is unlawful, infringing, defamatory, or that violates someone else's rights;
- distribute malware, phishing pages, spam, or anything designed to deceive or harm;
- abuse the share-link or image-hosting features, including for bulk storage, hot-linking at scale, or content unrelated to your own projects;
- circumvent, reverse-engineer, or interfere with the free-tier meter, billing, security, or rate limits;
- resell or redistribute the Service as your own.
We may suspend or terminate access, and remove hosted content, for conduct that violates these Terms or that we reasonably believe is harmful.
6Your content
You own the HTML and assets you create. We don't claim ownership of your work. When you use an optional feature that stores content on our servers — publishing a share link or hosting an image — you grant us a limited, worldwide license to store, host, and serve that content solely to operate that feature for you. This license ends when you delete or revoke the content, subject to normal backups and caches clearing.
7Published shares and hosted assets are public
When you publish a share link, the page is served publicly at htmlol.lol/share/<slug> and can be viewed by anyone who has the link. Hosted images are served from public URLs. Optional password-gating on a share is a convenience to discourage casual access — it is not strong security, and you should not rely on it to protect sensitive information. Don't publish anything you wouldn't want to be public. You're responsible for what you publish, and you can revoke a share at any time.
8Our intellectual property
The HTMLOL name, brand, look and feel, and the software behind the Service are owned by us and protected by law. These Terms don't grant you any rights in our brand or software except the right to use the Service as intended.
9Third-party services
The Service relies on third parties to function — including Stripe (payments), Supabase (authentication, database, and storage), Vercel (hosting), and an email delivery provider for sign-in codes. Your use of features powered by these providers is also subject to their terms. We're not responsible for third-party services we don't control.
10Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We don't warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure. Previews and the email-compatibility checks are approximate guidance generated by static analysis — they help you spot likely issues, but they don't guarantee how any given email client or browser will actually render your HTML. The Service is offered as an early-stage product and may have rough edges.
11Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, HTMLOL and West Village Ventures LLC will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of the amounts you paid us in the twelve (12) months before the claim, or one hundred U.S. dollars ($100).
12Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless HTMLOL and West Village Ventures LLC from claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your content, your use of the Service, or your violation of these Terms or of any law or third-party right.
13Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or if we discontinue the Service. Sections that by their nature should survive termination — including ownership, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and indemnification — will survive.
14Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we'll revise the "Last updated" date above, and material changes will be reflected in the app. Continuing to use the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
15Governing law and venue
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute that isn't resolved informally will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Pennsylvania, and you consent to their jurisdiction.
